Who We Are
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Our vision is that all children succeed in life.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville was established in 1975 through a local interest group originating from Harriet Cohn Mental Health Center and Grace Lutheran Church. Today a volunteer board of directors oversees the agency.
We are part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the nation’s oldest and largest youth mentoring organization. Since 1904, adult volunteers have helped millions of children reach their full potential. Over 500 agencies in all 50 states match children with mentors who provide friendship, fun and learning.
What We Do
We pair youth facing adversity with adults in a professionally supported and monitored one-to-one relationships.
Mentors in our program are matched with a youth in the community and meet once a week or once every other week to hang out, talk and have fun. These matches are low key and low cost. You can go to the park, play games, attend free community events and other local activities.
Through the simple act of friendship, you can make a difference in the life of a child. Children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program show higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships. They avoid risky behaviors like drinking and smoking, and they see more educational successes. All because you stepped up and became a Big Brother or Big Sister.
By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers, and others in the community we are accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational success
